Upcoming Events Planned At Monthly Auxiliary Meeting
The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on Aug. 21. Our meeting was called to order by our President Shirley Trout. Joyce Brestel read the prayer and we then said the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner, and said the Auxiliary Preamble.
The minutes of our last meeting were not available so they were skipped. MaryAnn Boldt gave our financial report.
Shirley read a thank you note from Sue Phelps. She was thanking us for our help with the 4th of July celebration of Phelps fireworks. We have also received a thank you note from Fort McPherson for the $100 donation we gave to help their programs.
We would like to announce that Jane Fieldgrove has married Grady Lashley so from now on we shall refer to Jane as Jane Lashley.
We have voted and approved donations for several projects for our Veterans and Auxiliary members that shall total $220.
Our Custer County Convention will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Comstock in their Community Building. Our Unit 59 of Legion and Legion Auxiliary will be in charge of the memorial service at the Convention.
During the Kite Flight on Sept. 2 at 5:00 p.m., our Unit 59 of the Legion and the Legion Auxiliary will serve a Catfish Fry at Henry’s Bar. The fish fry is in honor of Gary Kumm “Kumbo”, and all he has done for this unit for years. His brother “The Catfish King” Tim Kumm from Lewellen will provide the catfish. It is a free will donation and the money goes to the Legion Scholarships Fund. The Auxiliary will bring salads and sheet cakes.
September is Gold Star Month. We have one Gold Star Member; she is Rose Hersch. We will plan a special event for her to attend.
Shirley Trout concluded the meeting with a prayer. Sincerely, Eileen Wilson, Secretary
