What an exciting opportunity for Callaway! The Pool Committee has done a great deal of work to present the Village Board and community members with a detailed plan for funding and building a new swimming pool. Prior to November, the Village Board set aside $440,000 over 10 years to offset the cost of a new pool or improvements to the pool built in 1972. Also prior to November, The Callaway Foundation quietly raised $45,000 in its pool account. Now the voters have approved a bond issue, multiple grant applications have been completed, and the demolition has begun.
If you spent childhood summer days swimming at the Callaway pool (like I did), or took swimming lessons there (as I did), if one of your first summer jobs was at the pool (as mine was), if you have enjoyed the pool with your own children on Pioneer Picnic weekend (as I have), or if you hope to bring your grandchildren “home” to safely splash around on a hot summer day (the way I hope to), please consider immediately making a tax-deductible donation to the Callaway Foundation! No matter where you live now! This will let the members of the community know we all see the Callaway Pool as important and valuable and we stand with them in raising the remaining funds to provide a new pool for swimmers of all ages!
