One of the area highlights of the summer is on tap for this weekend, as the smell of smokers and BBQ will once again fill the air in Oconto, beckoning hundreds of people to wet their taste buds. The famous Oconto Blowin' The Doors Off BBQ is Saturday, June 3.

It’s been 23 years since a Halloween night tornado nearly wiped out the community of Oconto, and even after having to take a couple of years off due to a pandemic the annual BBQ is still as popular as ever. Gates will open at 5 p.m. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat BBQ are $17 in advance and $20 at the door for adults, and children (ages 5-10 yrs) are $10. Advance tickets may be purchased from any Oconto Volunteer Fire Department member or at Eggleston Oil in Oconto.

Live entertainment will be featured all evening, with South Loup Sunrise performing from 5 - 8 p.m. and Borderline from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will be a slight break in the music for the raffle and live auction at 7 p.m. A beer garden will be available on site.

Plan to bring your lawn chairs and your appetite and come support the Oconto Volunteer Fire Department for their annual fundraiser. It is a great time for all!

Other upcoming events include the Callaway City Wide Garage Sales on Saturday, June 10. The community is also gearing up for the celebration of the summer - Pioneer Picnic.

Callaway is always eager to welcome back CHS alumni and guests for the annual community events, set for June 23 - 25. It is a huge event that requires a lot of volunteers, and the Chamber is asking any community members who are willing to help clean up Morgan Park in preparation for Pioneer Picnic to mark Tuesday, June 20 on your calendar. Volunteers are asked to bring your cleaning supplies and smiles to the park that day for the annual clean-up, and supper will be provided.
