Callaway Legion Auxiliary Donates To Pool Fund
On Monday night, April 17, the Callaway American Legion Post 59 and the Callaway American Legion Auxiliary donated funds to the Callaway Pool fund. Mary Ann Boldt, representing the Auxiliary, presented a check for $1,300 to Christie Pitkin, Vice-President of the Callaway Community Foundation Fund.
The donated funds came from many years of the Auxiliary sponsoring concessions at the baseball field for youth t-ball, baseball and softball. As participation in those sports has waned since 2020, the Auxiliary felt that passing the funds on to the youth that would use the new pool would be the best use.
Tom Wilson, representing the American Legion Post, presented a check for $2,000. The donated funds came from the Pancake and Sausage Feed held on Sunday, Feb. 19.
April Auxiliary Meeting Minutes
For our April meeting, Auxiliary Unit 59 met at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Callaway. We proceeded in normal meeting order. Deondra Lashley called the meeting to order and a substitute Clergy leader Jane Fieldgrove read the prayer. A summary of the minutes from our last meeting were read. MaryAnn Boldt went over the financial report.
We have a good balance after paying all our expenses. Before the meeting tonight the Legion and the Auxiliary gave two checks to the Callaway Foundation for the Pool Fund.
The Auxiliary also received a Memorial Donation from the Evelyn Gladem Family.
The Department of the American Legion Auxiliary for Nebraska wanted us to read The Call Order to our unit. The Departments 103rd Convention will be held at the Ramada Inn in Kearney. For the convention our Auxiliary headquarters will be in the Ramada. The Legion and the Sons of the American Legion will also be headquartered in the Ramada. We will have to select delegates and alternates for this Convention before June 25th.
There was news that the Legion magazine would tentatively be suspended as of the June edition. They stated that there were not enough people working to put out this magazine.
We are hoping they will still publish the STAR but we will be notified later if we will still receive the STAR.
We will give small hand flags to the students at the Callaway Christian Academy.
Poppy day will be set for May 19th with an alternate date of May 26th.
Sincerely, Eileen Wilson, Secretary
