Short Meeting For School Board; Reminder For Public Participation

The Callaway Board of Education met on Monday, Nov. 13, with a light agenda that moved the meeting pretty quickly. One of the action items on the agenda was the approval of the second reading of a group of policies relating to school board functions and business.

“One of those policies relates to what to do when we have a tie when voting for officers. We did put in the coin flip clause after so many tied votes,” explained Superintendent Bryon Hanson.

The board also approved the 2022-23 financial audit, which Hanson said: “went extremely well”.

As a formality, both the Callaway and Arnold school boards vote to approve the cooperative for volleyball, boys cross country, girls cross country, and football annually. The Callaway board approved maintaining that cooperative.

The final action item was updating the names on the safety deposit box at First Interstate Bank.

The board is inviting patrons, parents, staff, and administrators to take part in the process of searching for a new superintendent. The Nebraska Association of School Boards is assisting the board in the search process and has scheduled a visit to the school and community on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The NASB team will meet with administrators from 2:45 - 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and with all classified/certified staff who would like to attend from 3:45 - 4:30 p.m. Then at 7 p.m., they will meet with all interested community members, parents, and patrons.

If you are interested in sharing comments on any of these issues but are unable to attend the meeting, you may access the online form at www.surveymonkey. com/r/callaway, or email sbecker@nasbonline.org. A copy of the form is also available at the superintendent’s office at Callaway Public School.
