SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Dishman Focusd On Technology Career
Those who didn’t know better might get confused and think there are two Chad Dishman’s at Callaway High School! That is because there kind of are two of them, and to the untrained eye trying to tell Chad and his twin brother Chase apart can be difficult.
Chad also has a brother Chance, and a sister Chenney, and identical twins Chad and Chase also share their birthday with Chance. What are the odds?!
With graduation just a little over a week away, like his classmates Chad is making plans for his next step in life. Next fall he plans to attend Central Community College in Hastings where he will study to become an app developer. “It will take me two years to complete my associate’s degree in information science of technology. The classes I am taking will probably be my generals and some computer classes,” Chad explained.
He said he chose CCC because it is a great environment, is a small campus and has the program that he was looking for. “It also has the best greasy, fatty food,” he added jokingly.
Chad explained that there are a few different career options he can pursue with this type of education. At this point his interest is primarily in mobile application development, which he explained are basically software engineers who specialize in mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. “The design, create, test and maintain mobile applications such as social media apps, mobile games, company apps and educational apps,” he shared.
Another option would be computer programming more specifically, developing codes for computer software, working closely with software engineers and developers. A third option Chad mentioned is a web developer - building websites according to a client’s specifications. According to his research all three options are comparable in potential salary expectations, ranging from about $70,000 to nearly $125,000 per year.
“I chose this career because I am fascinated with technology and I want to go into this field. According to Strengths Finder my strengths are developer, competitor, inclusive, commanding and adaptable,” Chad said.
While attending CCC, Chad does plan to get involved in some type of activity or club, though he is still undecided just what that will be. He also plans to work and isn’t sure yet whether that will be on or off campus.
While in high school Chad has participated in bowling, speech and youth group. His hobbies include video games, movies and WWE.
He admits that he will miss his family and that he is a little nervous about having to do homework and “grown up stuff”. Chad also realizes it will be an adjustment to be responsible for his own things like meals and laundry.
However, he is looking forward to the opportunity for that kind of additional responsibility and is excited to meet new people and make new friends.
Chad offers the following advice to his underclassmen. “Hustle, be loyal and respectful. Don’t cheat unless you have to. Get things done on time.”
And finally, echoing a sentiment like most of those who have gone before him, Chad added, “Your four long years of high school will go by really fast.”
