The day of enjoying a turkey feast and giving thanks for the many blessings we enjoy also traditionally marks the beginning of the Christmas season. It also means Callaway’s community Christmas event is just around the corner.

The old-fashioned Christmas Around Town is set for Wednesday, Dec. 4, with activities at various locations throughout the community. A craft and home-based business show will be held in the Community Center from 4-8 p.m. The Sons of the American Legion traditionally serve a soup supper in the Community Center at that time as well so guests can enjoy a delicious bowl of homemade soup before or after shopping.

There are plenty of activities for kiddos and adults alike. Santa will be in the mini-park, and after a visit with the jolly old elf the family can enjoy s’mores at the fire pit and a wagon ride. Some of the downtown businesses will be open to welcome people in, and the library will also host children’s activities.

The Callaway Old Fashioned Christmas is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber also reminds Callaway residents to take advantage of the Best Yard of Cheer contest which opens Dec. 1 and runs through Dec. 20. Nominate your favorite Yard of Cheer to Kelsey or Stacey at First Interstate Bank. The 1st place winner will receive $50 in Chamber bucks and the 2nd place winner will receive $25 in Chamber bucks, so channel your inner Clark Griswold and get to decorating!

Also beginning in December, be sure to watch for the Letters to Santa mailbox in the mini-park. There will be more details to come on that.

First Interstate Bank is hosting a coats-and-more drive. You may drop off any gloves, hats, mittens, or coats at the bank and all items will be going to the school kids. The Tree of Love will also be set up in December at First Interstate Bank.
