It Was A Big Year For Callaway FCCLA
The Callaway FCCLA chapter held their end of the year banquet on Tuesday, May 2, to celebrate all of their members' accomplishments individually and as a chapter.
Jocelyn Bailey shared the following recap of the FCCLA highlights for the year.
“We’ve had a great year as a chapter. At the beginning of the year, we held our annual ice cream social with 7-12 grade students. Officers then headed to Kearney for a fall leadership workshop, to prepare for their leadership positions for the school year.
October kicked off our pop tab competition to see what class could bring the most pop tabs in support of the Ronald McDonald house. The 5th grade brought in the most pop tabs and was rewarded with root beer floats. Together the elementary brought in approximately 110,544 pop tabs!
The chapter went to district leadership, where they helped with outdoor cleanup around downtown North Platte and Tyra Brestel placed 2nd in creed speaking and so did the knowledge bowl team of Chenney, Jazzlynn, Skylar, Jaxon, Angel, and Tyra. In October we held a CLUE night, which was very successful! Thank you to Mrs. Robinson's Cafe for donating prizes.
During November Skylar and Jozi headed up a sock service project. December consisted of cookies, cookies, and more cookies! Thank you all for coming in and baking cookies as a chapter. During January we had four groups of members competing at district STAR, and all were able to head to Lincoln for the state leadership conference.
During February we had FCCLA week, packed with activities and even a state officer visit. At the end of February members also had the opportunity to go to the peer ed conference and listen to speakers in Kearney. March brought the pizza kit fundraiser where we were able to raise money to cover state costs. April 2-4 we competed in Lincoln where two groups placed third, and two placed fourth. A big thank you to Desiree Guthrie, and Tracy Popp for coming to Lincoln as evaluators, and making sure Jaxon didn’t get lost. We are lucky to be sending four students to nationals in Denver, Colorado this summer!”
