CPS Students To See Slight Meal Increase For 2023-24
With only one more meeting before the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, the agenda for the July Callaway Board of Education primarily consisted of the annual housekeeping business in preparation for another year. That included approval of the student handbook and the classified staff handbook.
“The only change that I had to make was a policy change due to legislative action regarding behavioral health,” stated Superintendent Bryon Hanson. Both handbooks were approved.
Also discussed and once again approved was the interlocal agreement between the school district and the Village of Callaway for the use of the Community Center for athletic practices. “We do that every year. It just gives us first right on the facility,” said Hanson.
There were also a number of policies that were updated, and once again Hanson explained that those changes came about as the result of legislative actions. In a curriculum item, the board voted to continue the math expressions for another three years. “We have gotten good results on that, so we are going to extend that license for another three years,” Hanson explained.
Meal prices for the 2023-24 school year were also set at the July 10 board meeting. All meals at Callaway Public School are prepared in-house, which Hanson said allows the district to keep prices more affordable.
Breakfast at CPS will be $2.35 next year. The fee for elementary lunch was set at $2.80, and lunch for secondary students will be $2.95. “We didn’t do an increase last year, as we were coming off of two years of no-cost lunches. We are still very reasonable on price,” Hanson shared.
The final agenda items were simply updates requiring no action from the board. Those included an update on summer maintenance projects, which are on track, and an update on the new calendar that will be shared on the school website.
Hanson said the required annual policy hearings will be held at the August board meeting on Aug. 14. Policy hearings will get started at 7:45 p.m., with the regular meeting to follow.
