Superintendent Ronald Hemphill announced the policy for free milk for Oconto school children unable to pay the full price of milk served under the Special Milk Program. Local school officials have adopted the family size income criteria for determining eligibility.

The regular meeting of the Village Board was held on Sept. 2. Effective Oct. 1, there will be a rate increase on water and sewer. The rates will be doubled, according to Chairman Forrest Cook, to defray extra sewer expenses and to pay for a possible new well.

A gallon of gasoline may have greatly exceeded $3 but it didn’t deter many from taking in the 15th annual Kite Flight over Labor Day weekend. Kite Flight chairperson Connie May said there were 117 registrations to fly and an estimated 2,500 spectators over the weekend.

The Seven Valleys Rodeo Association put on a ranch rodeo on Sunday afternoon. A total of 18 teams competed using skills such as steer doctoring, steer mugging, trailer loading, and wild cow milking.
