Representatives of the Alumni Association, Seven Valleys Rodeo Association, American Legion, and Chamber of Commerce met to begin discussions about the annual Pioneer Picnic, rodeo and alumni. This coming year will be the bicentennial and it is the wish of these organizations to make this the biggest and best celebration this community has ever put together.

Election of officers was held for the Bryson Booker Post 59 American Legion in Callaway. Wayne Witthuhn was reelected Commander, Vice Commander Paul Evans, Adjutant Bill Hickenbottom, and Finance Officer Fred Smith.

The annual SORC speed trial races south of Callaway on the Cozad country road had to be cancelled when rain showers moved in to stay, dampening around 2,000 fans and putting an end to a lot of hard work setting it up. Race officials feared that the wet road would be a safety hazard for cars and drivers.

The former Lower 40 Restaurant building in Callaway will stand vacant no more. New owners Mark and Lana Tiede, formerly of Elwood, bought the building from John Witthuhn and plan to reopen as Doxee’s Steakhouse.
