50 YEARS AGO:
Larry Mowry led a discussion of the Callaway Community Improvement Program on the resolution passed by the Village Board setting forth a uniform way of numbering houses and businesses in Callaway. Sample addresses were worked out for structures on Kimball St. and Grand Ave. To be published in the Courier so residents would have an idea of how to go about determining the number for their property.
Callaway Hospital Administrator Betty Schuster reported that the first year of Medicare in the hospital “has gone very smoothly”.
25 YEARS AGO:
Student handbooks at Callaway Public School will contain specific policies about tattoos, body piercings, and bullies. Principal Dave Weber reported that body decorations that distract from the educational environment will be subject to disciplinary measures.
Callaway Community Bible School will be held July 17-18 at Morgan Park for K-6th grade students. Bible School is sponsored by St. Boniface Catholic, Callaway United Methodist, and Lutheran churches.
20 YEARS AGO:
The District 180 Board of Education voted 6-0 to approve school bus routes that will include Oconto Community School and students from the Buffalo community. However, still unresolved is the Friday afternoon route under a plan that will bring the Oconto student body to Callaway for lunch, recess and some classes.
Former Vice Chairman of the Callaway Village Board, Marvin Smith, was elected chairman at the July regular meeting. Board member Dwight Oserhoudt was voted vice chairman. The seats were shuffled after the departure of Chairman Brian Gardner, who moved to North Platte.
