50 YEARS AGO :

Casket flags have been turned over to the local American Legion Posts by relatives and friends of a deceased veteran to be displayed on Memorial Day or any other day they see fit. The Callaway American Legion is planning to use these for Rose Hill Cemetery and will use them for their Bicentennial Project. The poles will be furnished by the American Legion or anyone who wishes to donate one.

The winner of the General Mills Family Leader of Tomorrow Award has been announced and this year there has been a switch. For probably the first time in Callaway, a boy has won. The winner was Rick Coons, a senior at CHS.

20 YEARS AGO:

Callaway Public School principal Dave Weber and guidance counselor and teacher Brian Garnder can rest easy going into retirement. Their replacements have been found.

Pending a vote by the Board of Education on Feb. 13, the search committee has selected candidates Ron Ready of Wauneta to replace Weber and Mary Beshaler of Arnold to take over for Gardner.
