BLAST FROM THE PAST
50 YEARS AGO:
Most area residents spent last Sunday digging out after a weekend storm.
The 30 to 40 degree temperatures we experienced Monday and Tuesday were welcomed with open arms. The temperatures were below zero much of last week.
With snow, snow, and more snow in the forecast for Wednesday, we will most likely be digging out again.
The Callaway Courier will be celebrating their second anniversary open house on Dec. 5. The first 30 people in the door who subscribe to the Courier will receive $1 off of our regular price plus a box of Christmas cards.
20 YEARS AGO:
Most everything came to a standstill when a major blizzard paralyzed much of Nebraska early this week. Estimates of anywhere from 6 to 12 inches were ventured but it was hard to tell Tuesday morning with most of the snow piled into 4 to 5-foot drifts around buildings and across roads. Winds of up to 67 mph were clocked, causing white-out conditions and every road in Custer County was closed down. Local schools were closed for two days.
Three CHS football players and two volleyball players were mentioned in the Kearney Hub’s All-Region teams last week. Senior Ky Myers led the way as a second-team defensive back, while senior linebacker Kyle Berg and senior punter Brian Hogg were honorable mention. Juniors Whitney Jenkins and Kimberly Pierce were honorable mention for volleyball.
