50 YEARS AGO:

The Callaway Chamber of Commerce met on Oct. 20 at Jerry’s Steak House and discussed the Christmas holiday. There will be a film at the school, and Santa will distribute treats at the school.

An All-Sports Banquet will be held on March 26.

The speaker will be Bob DeVaney.

Thanks to the Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Department of Roads, motorists can now find out the conditions of the roads by calling either a Lincoln or Omaha telephone number. The road condition reports are on tape and are updated every three or four hours.

20 YEARS AGO:

Contractors are nearly finished pouring a new concrete pad that will support a mobile CAT Scan unit at Callaway District Hospital. If the hoped for expansion of medical doctors becomes a reality, it will warrant building onto the hospital and clinic and a permanent CT unit be installed inside the building.

Seventy-five people gathered at the Callaway Senior Center on Oct. 19 to hear a presentation on the new Medicare Part D program. The informational session was sponsored by Right Drug. For the first time, Medicare enrollees will be able to receive prescription drug insurance coverage administered by Medicare but sold by private insurance companies.
