50 YEARS AGO:

The Seven Valleys Service Center celebrated five years in Callaway on Oct. 19, by serving pumpkin pie and coffee at the Village Cafe, where 124 persons registered for prizes. Minnie Hanes won a digital clock, and 100 pumpkins were given to children.

New barber Ron Neben held an open house on Oct. 20 in Callaway. Customers and well-wishers enjoyed coffee and rolls. Ron stated that within two weeks, he would be able to keep the shop open on Mondays and Wednesdays or as many days as it takes to get the job done.

20 YEARS AGO:

An estimated 80 people attended the Callaway Chamber of Commerce potluck dinner to welcome new families who have moved into the area in the last year. Pastor Jerry Schwarz, who organized the event, said 12 of the 17 families identified attended the gathering.

Callaway Good Samaritan Center celebrated Founder’s Day, the 83rd birthday of the Good Samaritan Center, as residents and guests were treated to refreshments and a free concert. The bluegrass gospel group “Homeward Bound Band” performed in the activities room after the weather drove the event indoors.
