50 YEARS AGO:

The annual Custer County Woman’s Club Convention was held at Callaway Tuesday, April 29. The theme, “Plan and Work for the Future” and the motto “Look up, not down, Look out, not in, Look forward and not backward and lend a hand” were used in planning the meeting.

Bernice Crow of Callaway received the Silver Trivet Award which is presently by the Stokely-Van Camp Co. to a home economics student who is especially proficient in foods during the Ivy Day ceremonies at Chadron State College this past week. Bernice was also tapped by Apha Phi Sigma, which requires a grade point average of at least 3.5 on the 4.0 scale. She also belongs to Cardinal Key, national honor sorority.

20 YEARS AGO:

The Callaway Lady Bears gave a good account of themselves in the Loup Valley Conference track meet Friday. CHS scored 74.5 points to take third overall but trailed at a distance as Anselmo-Merna took the team title with 123, edging Ansley with 121. Callaway picked up two gold medals on the day in the 3200 relay and the high jump. There were also several silver medals.

Twenty-one seniors accepted diplomas and scholarships during the 2005 Callaway High School Commencement exercises last Sunday afternoon. Amy Pandorf was named salutatorian and Angela Pitkin was the class valedictorian. Both gave addresses to the assembled audience.
