BLAST FROM THE PAST
50 YEARS AGO:
James Bennet of Wood River has been hired as the Village Marshal for Callaway.
He will begin his new duties on May 1. He comes to Callaway with 15 years of police experience and five years with the Marines. His wife, Bonnie, his sons, Randy, 6, and Ray, 4, and his mother-in-law, Anna Van-Beber will move to Callaway with him. They will live in the Ellen Armold estate property.
20 YEARS AGO:
Callaway District Hospital is celebrating National Hospital Week, May 8-14, by reflecting upon how far it has come since reopening in 1974 and how far it must go to keep up. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been invested in the latest technology to keep the hospital viable in this digital age. New equipment, such as x-ray, mammography, ultrasound, patient heart monitors, and lab equipment, has all been purchased, and hospital personnel have been trained with that in mind. Even patient records and hospital billing have gone digital for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. An endoscopy/colonoscopy machine is the latest acquisition.
