The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on April 13, 2026. President Cora Belew called the meeting to order. Chaplain Joyce Brestel started with a prayer. We then followed our President in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the Star Spangled Banner, and saying the Auxiliary Preamble. The minutes of our last meeting were read by the secretary. MaryAnn made a motion to approve the minutes as read, Joyce seconded the motion, and it was unanimously approved.

MaryAnn gave the financial report. All our bills have been paid as of now, and we are looking great. Jo made a motion to approve the financial report as read, and Joyce seconded this move. It was approved unanimously. We will have to wait on any more bills until we receive checks from our new bank.

On March 29, the Ice Cream and Pie Social was held at the Veterans Home in Kearney. If anyone would like to help, please contact MaryAnn Boldt.

Department has sent out a reminder to all poppy makers, reminding them that Poppy Day is May 22.

We had a discussion on what we would pass out at the parade in June. We would like to give out patriotic items, but have not decided yet.

Custer County Convention will be held on Sept. 20 in Oconto at 10 a.m.

The candy bars that we are donating to the Veterans Medical Center in Grand Island were delivered with our labels saying: Happy Birthday America, 250 Years, Compliments of Unit 59, Callaway American Legion Auxiliary.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4th thru the 8th. We will find a date to award the students for their work in Americanism Essays and Poppy Posters.

For Pioneer Picnic, the Legion plans to serve an evening meal on Saturday and a Sunday morning breakfast. We voted to help the Legion with whatever we can help with.

We had the Legion Birthday Party on March 22, and it was a success. Em Jorgenson presented Bill Schaad with a Quilt of Valor. The Auxiliary and the Legion presented Certificates of Membership to the eligible members. We had cake and ice cream and lots of conversation. It was a great gathering.

The meeting concluded with a prayer from our Chaplain, and Cora adjourned the meeting. Sincerely, Eileen Wilson, Secretary
