American Legion Auxiliary Meeting Held Jan. 12
The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly meeting started at 6:30 at the Callaway Legion Hall on Jan. 12, 2026. Our president Cora Belew called the meeting to order. Our chaplain, Joyce Brestel, started the meeting with a prayer. We then followed our president in reciting the pledge of allegiance, singing the Star-Spangled Banner and saying the Auxiliary Preamble. The minutes of our last meeting were read by the secretary. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Mary Ann Boldt, seconded by Jo Chesley and it was approved unanimously. Mary Ann then followed with the financial report. Other than the delinquent dues we are doing good financially. As we are still trying to collect dues from several of our members, the names were divided up, and our group will try to collect these dues. Jo moved to accept the financial report as presented, Joyce seconded the move and it was approved.
Our unit’s constitution and by-laws will be updated with these changes: 1. The time and date of our meetings will be changed to the second Monday of the month with starting time to be 6:30.
2. At County Government Day we will pay half the cost of the meals for our students attending.
3. If members are in good standing with us but can no longer be responsible for their finances, Unit 59 will pay their dues.
Jo moved to accept the changes as presented and Mary Ann seconded the move. It received unanimous approval.
Cora has purchased the two books, True Stories of Brave Animals in The Military and The Poppy Lady.
Eileen moved that we pay Cora for these books and Jo seconded the move. It was approved unanimously. The books will be given to the school library.
At District 6 held in Kearney on Mar. 7, the Center Piece, the History Book, the Prayer Book and our Publication Book will all need to be presented for judging.
The box for Valentines for Veterans is now at the Nigel Sprouse Library. You can make your valentines for the veterans and add them to the box. The box will be picked up on Feb. 11 so our wonderful ladies can take them to the veterans for Valentines Day.
Americanism Essays will be picked up on Feb. 13, for judging. The girls’ state applications will be picked up on Mar. 1 for judging, The Poppy Posters will be picked up Mar. 13 for judging.
Mary Ann will attend the Mid-Year Conference at Norfolk, from Jan. 12-18. The Veterans Wreaths were picked up on Sat., Dec. 27. We had lots of help and a special thanks to Craig Spanel for his help.
The meeting concluded with a prayer from our chaplain and Cora adjourned the meeting.
Sincerely, Eileen Wilson, Secretary
