ALCC Plans Sixth Compost Days

Adams Land & Cattle (ALCC) is excited to be sharing their nutrient-rich and organic compost with local gardeners during their sixth annual Adams Compost Days. Custer County residents are encouraged to bring buckets and stop at their loadout facility, just north of the South Lot entrance on Highway 21. They will be giving out compost on Saturday, May 3 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Sunday, May 4 from Noon to 3:00 pm, and Saturday, May 10 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Manure from cattle at Adams is broken down and turned into a valuable compost product that increases the nutrients and water-holding capacity of soils. The material is turned 3-5 times, which allows the surface area to be exposed to oxygen and the raw material to quickly heat over 120 degrees, which is the temperature needed to kill any weed seeds. The end product is nutrient-rich and odor-less compost.

“With our continued focus on sustainability and recycling natural resources, the composting process creates a great product for the health of the soil,” said Abram Babcock, president of Adams. “We know that many of our neighbors enjoy planting gardens and we thought this would be a great way to give back to our community.”

Please note: These dates may be rescheduled or canceled pending weather and availability of compost. Check out the ALCC website (www.adamslandandcattle. com) or their Facebook page for more details.
