Larry Mowry reported to the Callaway Chamber of Commerce that the Callaway Village Board had voted to give $2,400 for the building of a tennis court in Morgan Park. The Chamber formed a committee to get voluntary labor to form the foundation and run the cement for the court.

Mrs. Thelma G’Schwind, 51 of rural Callaway, was killed in a freak pickup accident on June 18, four miles west of Arnold on Highway 92. Mrs. G’Schwind, her husband Bill, and daughter Patty were returning from Nebraskaland Days in North Platte when their pickup was hit by a tornado. Bill was taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney and treated for multiple injuries, while Patty is in Callaway Hospital with a broken collarbone and several other cuts and bruises.

(Remember when the paper included town news like this?) Laverne and Loris Leach of Loveland, Colorado, arrived at the Bob and Bonnie Myers home Friday. Don and Sunbeam Swanson of rural Arnold joined them for supper. The Leach’s were overnight guests en route to a Leach reunion.

Mrs. Nick Issac was a Saturday visitor in the Bill Zoerb home and Margie Headley was a Friday visitor.
