Dear Editor, I want to express my appreciation and excitement for the hearty turnout to the meeting concerned citizen Kirk Hansel called together in January to discuss how to get Ryno Road restored to hard surface. Because of the weather, Kirk had to reschedule several times, but the meeting was finally held on Jan. 25.

Nearly 30 people attended – some from as far away as 30 miles -- and it soon became crystal clear that there is tremendous support for restoring this important transportation route in western Custer County, which was destroyed in the March 2019 Bomb Cyclone. These past four years, Ryno Road has been reduced to a treacherous, four-wheel-drive-only trail with every thaw and moisture condition.

We are now organizing a concerned-citizens campaign to gather support, information and resources that will help our County Supervisors and Highway Superintendent act on repeated requests to restore Ryno Road to hard surface, as it was prior to the storm. We encourage everyone interested in showing support for this effort to attend the Custer County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 10:00 a.m., 3rd Floor Courthouse, when the board will be discussing its ever-important 1and 5-Year Plan for the county.

Public comments are important at this meeting! If citizens cannot attend, but would like to submit a written statement containing your personal reaction to Ryno’s neglect and your support for restoration, or to discuss other ways you can help this important effort, contact me at R3Trout@gmail.com. And thank you, again, to everyone who came out for that January meeting and, especially, to Kirk Hansel for persisting in getting us together so we can get organized and get Ryno Road returned to the safe and important roadway it once was and needs to be, again.
