From The Capitol: From Pasture to Policy
During my campaign, I promised to defend freedom, strengthen families, and support communities where Nebraska’s values are preserved and protected for generations to come. I remain committed to those promises.
In an often uncertain world, foundational values prove to be a steady guide. Principles such as personal responsibility, respect for human dignity and life, and a commitment to community anchor us amidst often turbulent winds. At the core of these values lies the family.
In support and celebration of these values, I recently attended the 2025 Life & Liberty Gala, hosted by the Nebraska Family Alliance (NFA). The NFA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing faith, family, and freedom through influencing policy, mobilizing prayer, and empowering civic engagement. The NFA advocates on issues such as religious liberty, the sanctity of life, parental rights, marriage, and education, and is actively involved in legislation, organizing grassroots action, and collaborating with national partners to shape public policy. They have been an important partner in my work at the Capitol.
The gala featured keynote speaker Bethany Hamilton, a professional surfer and pro-life advocate renowned for her inspiring story of faith and courage. The evening's event was a celebration of recent victories here in Nebraska to advance life and liberty.
On a separate front, this week's news included an announcement of a partnership between Nebraska and Homeland Security, to provide a safe, secure space to detain individuals found in violation of our immigration laws. Homeland Security will be repurposing the Work Ethic Camp in McCook to be used as an ICE detention center. I support the President’s national immigration policy and am pleased that Nebraska can play a role. The center will house individuals awaiting deportation and other immigration proceedings, and will not burden the state budget but rather bring some additional Federal resources into the State. Nebraska’s participation ensures responsible immigration enforcement while upholding public safety, the rule of law, and fair treatment.
