50 YEARS AGO:
Charles Schaeffer, who now resides in the Nebraska Veterans Home, was presented by his 58 consecutive years membership certificate by Callaway American Legion Post Commander Wayne Witthuhn. Charles was one of the first 20 members of the Callaway Post.
There will be boys baseball in Callaway this summer. Boys who will be seven but not 13 before Sept. 1, will meet at the ball park on May 10 to be divided into as many teams as there are boys for.
25 YEARS AGO:
Musicians and vocalists for Callaway High School band and choir tallied 10 ones and 14 twos at the annual district music contest in Kearney.
The Courier earned four awards at the annual Nebraska Newspaper Association awards banquet in Kearney. Second-place awards were received in news writing, front page design, and sports news photography, and a third place award was also received in news writing.
The Village Board of Trustees voted to accept a bid to purchase a new bucket truck at a cost of about $106,000. It will replace an aging 1971 model that has been the village mainstay.
