50 YEARS AGO:
The Callaway Village Board voted at their Aug. 5 meeting to raise water and sewer rates in Callaway. The present monthly water costs are $2.50 for residential, $1.50 for commercial, and $1.25 for sewer. The hospital, school, and rest home have higher rates. The board will review all present rates at their September meeting and then decide on a new price.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile held at the Callaway Community Hall on Aug. 5, exceeded its quota of 75 pints. There were 78 pints of blood collected with five donors turned away. Special pins were given to Lucille Cantrell, Callaway - four gallon pin, and Robert Johnson, Callaway - five gallon pin.
20 YEARS AGO:
The Arnold Village Board is considering options for hiring a full-time police officer, including possibly sharing the officer and the cost with another entity. The Callaway Village Board said it would be interested in discussing the issue but would not commit to a course of action at this time.
There’s a four-wheeler accident scheduled near Callaway that will be the focus of a six-minute training video. The video will be shot using Callaway EMTs, Callaway District Hospital Staff, and the Kearney Good Samaritan Air Care helicopter..
